Turn on a dime

It's no secret in our house that The Everything Marinator is important to me and getting it on the shelves is my goal.

Manufacturing The Everything Marinator will be somewhat pricey so Jason and I often talk about what it'll take (ie:how much money) to get The E.M (Everything Marinator) off the ground.

My sweet, little daughter walked up to me yesterday with a dime and said, "Here Mommy, here is ten cents to put towards The E.M".

Looks like I have my first invenstor!

That ten cents made me think about how everything can turn on a dime.

When it was apparent that Women Inventor was not in the cards, I was floundering...trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my invention.

As I told friends and family that a camera crew would NOT be coming to my house and HSN was more of a dream than a reality, I found some wonderful support. And some suprising offers of free advice, phone numbers for professionals that would help me for little or no money if I told them who reffered me,some friends that believed in me so much that they wanted to invest in The E.M. and... my daughters dime.

There is more than one way to skin a cat (gross saying but you know what I mean) and I am looking for that "way"!

  1. Hi Tracy:
I've been a "lurker" for a little while following you from the Mompreneurs Online community. I tried out in LA, and I really didn't get my hopes up too high. I just wanted to thank you for posting and letting us know what the status was on the tryouts.
Good luck to you. There are many roads to getting your idea onto store shelves, and these shows really are long shots. I'm sure your idea is great! Look at this way, you've already got your first investor, and more importantly, you have someone very special who really believes in you. Thanks again!

  2. Hi, Tracy~

"There's more than one way to skin a cat." - one of my favorite sayings along with a rather obnoxious (yet effective) one "winners find a way"... I am right there with you on the awkward shifting of gears, especially when we really do not want to give up that final shred of hope that we might be chosen for the show. I say SHOW SHMO! Let's hit one out of the park all on our own and have a lot more to show for it in the end!!!

    Pick up that phone girl!!

  3. Aww, that's so sweet. She loves you and SHE BELIEVES IN YOU!

Thank you for moving forward and not giving up! I've been inspired through your blog and all the other women inventor's posts, to get up and get goin' on this already! I'd love for you all to check out my blog. It's a work in progress!

As soon as I get my provisional patent submitted, I'll have pictures and more details. For now, it's mysteriously vague! LOL :)

    Rachel Hardy

  4. Logging on while I am STILL in NY and can't tell you how wonderful it is to see all the of sweet posts!

Maybe THIS is the reason I tried out for the show - so I could blog and fufill my love of writting?! :)

Whatever the reason may be, I am turning in with a smile on my face!

    Nite nite!

  5. Tracy such a wonderful story that really touches people heart. I am a firm believer that everthing happens for a reason & a season. Dont give up girl because I'm in the same boat as you. Im still hitting it very hard with getting my product out on the shelves. I listed a few trades shows coming, hope you can attend at least one of them and I get a chance to meet you. I will share any and all kinda information to you to help you. Because WE will make it with our invention. Have you taken a look at my umbrella invention? Please take a look and give me your feed back.
    Lets keep in touch

  6. Good morning, Tracy~

Check out for feeding your yen for writing (you are a great writer!). You can write articles through their "marketplace" and get paid. I have not been spending nearly as much time as I would like writing lately (I am working on a book), but this is a wonderful community for writers. I convinced my Aunt - who has written five books to join and she collects a tidy sum from them writing travel articles. It is easy and free to join and there is so much knowledge there. I think you would love it. Here is a link to one of my articles.

    Enjoy your Sunday,

  7. Hello Ladies,

  8. Ro, count me in! I will email you my link!

Thanks for the writing tip. It would be so cool to get paid to write!

I have checked out your invention and was actually telling a friend about it who LOVED it! Good luck to you - your umbrella invention is right on!

    The poshpodsling...hmmm, I'm intrigued!Go ahead and be vague, I'll wait! :)

  9. Hi ladies,
We are at the hotel this morning ready to rehearse for ST. I learned I was not allowed to write about it, so it is in code.

We film next Weds. so should know a lot then, like if we make a deal. But hoping to get some additional connections to help all of us out.

  10. Kara! I just came across your comment! Let us all know ASAP how it is going! Post it on the most recent blog entry so we don't miss it. Good luck!
